Thanks for defending me, Patrick. I’m not trying to be nosy about Diana’s finances – though didn’t she once publish her net worth in this blog, in fact? – but celebrating the fact that her wonderful writing is being adequately recognized and compensated by the publishing houses of the world.

By the bye, the killer unicorns didn’t measure up to Diana’s original sale of SSG 1 & 2, which was “significant”. And that doesn’t include the later sale of SSG 3 & 4, of course, which presumably was also “significant”.

Long story short, Diana deserves every penny and more of whatever it is that she’s getting – which is ultimately her business, natch, and not ours. But it’s nice to know that today’s authors are getting much more than their Grub Street predecessors of yesteryear. Samuel Johnson is probably turning over in his grave – with delight at Diana’s good fortune, of course!

(Me, I’m just jumping up and down! Ray for Diana!!)

anonymous, it isn't uncool. The range was published by choice of her and her agent. Bill didn't ask, he simply quoted the numbers here.

Some agents publish this to help build excitement for the book by saying look at the advance, book buyers, look how much confidence the Publisher has in it.

Saying it was an auction is also saying they had multiple publishers interested.

Make sense?

Now, asking where she fell in that range isn't so cool for many reasons.
