I swear, once I’m settled in the new house, I am going to toss a large percentage of this stuff. Thirty percent. That sounds good.
I can’t believe how much I hate packing.
I can’t believe Sailor Boy and I have over 20 boxes of books and we’re still finding the heavy little buggers around every corner. Lift up a sofa? Book. Move your dresser away from the wall? Book. There was even a book in my underwear drawer. A thin one, but still. How did that get there?
Since the consideration of what to take and what to toss is a lot harder than the one about where to pack it, I’m leaving all that stuff to Future Diana and Future Sailor Boy.
But as Blog is my Witness, I am getting rid of it.
Just not today.

I feel your pain. I, too, am packing. Packing sux. I have to say moving 1350 miles is easier than moving 6. When moving 1350 miles, you throw it out before moving. When moving 6, you think, well, I’ll just throw this in my car and take it over. I might need it later or I should really sell this in a yard/garage sale.
Five years later, you discover a box in your garage that you only opened once and think, huh, I bet I could sell all this in a garage sale.

yeah, packing is like the bane of… well everything.
Packing for a vacation is easy for me:
Bag, gone for 5 days, 5 sets of clothes. Toss laptop in backpack with appropriate chargers.
But moving? When I was leaving Atlanta I was almost like “I should just sell it all… that way I wouldn’t have to move it!”

I hate packing and moving! I definitely sympathize! But maybe you can get creative with all those books, building them into the furniture you say you don’t have to put in the house. Like a spare bed made out of books, and a buffet and hutch.

Annie, once you have that parasite out of you — sorry, tiny bundle of joy, I want you to come over here and teach me how to make a HUTCH or a SPARE BED out of books.
Vastly curious

My sympathies are with you and happy moving day! I detest packing. And I did the same thing with my last move: “I’ll worry about this on the other end and throw away while unpacking.”
Nope, I just shoved those boxes in the attic. To be dealt with again when we move next, I’m sure!

I hate packing to move more than just about anything on earth. I still have boxes in storage that I haven’t touched since I moved over 4 years ago.

Packing/moving sucks big time!

I hate packing, too. But I love UNpacking. It’s a fresh new start and you don’t have to redistribute the clutter. You can just shove those boxes into the garage.
I think I’ve been in my current house too long, tho. My clutter has gradually crept back in.
Having moving, Diana!

The trick is really not to move all the stuff you’re just going pitch anyway. Get rid of now if you have the time.

Okay… pregnancy might have made me slightly delusional, but I’m sure furniture made out of books is possible
BTW… bundle of joy is planned to come out next Thursday via c-section. She’s no tiny bundle… at 36 weeks she was weighing 8lbs 6oz and expected to gain a couple more pounds before birth

Ah, the scheduled C-Section. Weirdest experience ever. When they come into the room and say, “in 30 minutes, you’ll be back in this room with a baby” they aren’t kidding.
When they tell the dads that they can either watch the procedure or stay behind the curtain with their wife, they fail to mention that the ‘curtain’ is a six inch wide, three inch tall tissue situated just below mom’s nose so she can’t see. I haven’t figured out howe they expected me to get behind that ‘curtain’
Remember, the anethesiologist is your color commentator and lots of fun to talk to.

Thanks, Patrick! I’m experiencing a wide range of emotions regarding the c-section, especially anxiety since my OB office has been frustrating and awful at times. But I’ll pass along your comments to the hubby

Yeah, it’s a very standard procedure these days. The water birth classes really didn’t help with our C-Section preparation. We were dead set against it. Tried to turn the baby - supposedly that is painful, but I didn’t feel a thing. Had a very long discussion with the doctor on the dangers of a natural breech birth.
But the procedure is quick and very surreal. Definitely nothing to worry about.

I hate the packing, but I do love the way it makes me clean out things. And everything is wonderfully new looking once you unpack and they find their place of belonging.

ONLY 20 boxes of books?
August 31st, 2008 at 5:12 pm
